Book Review: Caroline Clemmons Snowfires

I met Caroline when we were both unpublished, newbies in the romance writing game. I expected to enjoy Snowfires because Caroline is such a down-to-earth, funny person. She’s not in-your-face. Her humor jumps out in unexpected comments. I like the way her mind works.

In Snowfires, I found that same mixture of startling humor and basic know-how. Although her hero, Trent, is in a situation he dislikes–he’s worked hard to get away from the ranch experience–he’s very competent. The relationship between Trent and Penny starts off rocky, partly because she works for him and partly he finds so darned attractive for a socialite. He thinks she’s such aprincess. It doesn’t help matters that he’s fantasized about Penny(and told himself he shouldn’t).

Dealing with cattle in a snowstorm–not his cattle, mind you–is easier than dealing with Penny and it’s no picnic. Snowfires is a funky, spicy read. I’d recommend it to any friend who wants to get caught up with two people fighting the reality that they were meant to be together.
