Review: Lick by Kylie Scott

This is a great book for those fascinated with the lives of rock stars. I write sexy contemporary romance and I tend to enjoy books that aren’t ordinary. Ms. Scott’s book captures the imagination and gives the reader a wonderful escapist romance in several areas. How many of us have fantasized about a famous, successful, rich dude falling deeply in love with us, although we aren’t even close to perfect? This happens to Evelyn, the heroine of Lick, (Stage Dive Series, Book 1). Although headed on a completely different path, Evelyn gets drunk and marries David, a rock god.

Ms. Scott has an easy, readable writing style and she crafts a very believable scenario using a much-written situation. Her story is relatable despite being set in a bizarre world and it has the one thing many readers crave–a hero who falls madly in love with the heroine right off the bat. Hey, we all want to be lovable and this portrays Evelyn as less sure of herself, but still wonderful in David’s eyes.

The conflict is mostly external, but that’s not a problem for many readers, as witness the popularity of this novel. Evelyn has to negotiate a strange, new world while sorting through what she wants out of life versus what her father has always expected of her.

I recommend this book to anyone who has fantasized about being loved by a rock star!
