Romantic Valentine’s Day? Ask Your Fave Romance Writer

Yes, some women love getting two dozen red roses sent to their work place. It just warms their hearts.
On the other hand, some of us prefer diamonds…. Just saying. Romance is definitely a personal thing and what sets one heart aflame, leaves another totally cold. With Valentine’s Day approaching, you may be scrambling for the perfect gift. While I know those who just love chocolate-dipped strawberries and those who get giddy with sweet, syrupy cards, I think you’re better off asking.

No, I don’t want you to ask what your love wants for Valentine’s Day. That’s a little too direct.
You probably should have a conversation, however, about a moment when he or she felt really loved by you. Prepare to give your Valentine some time to think about this because it’s not a typical question. Even the most loving of mates don’t always automatically know what gets their loved ones’ motor running. It’s understandable that he or she may feel shy, awkward and embarrassed to say this right out–not wanting to look like a gold digger or something–but you can get the ball rolling by asking your loved what works for him/her.

Think about it yourself–when have you felt most loved? This may involve thong underwear and mink-covered handcuffs and it may not. Some women get all goopy when their guy both cooks dinner and does the dishes. One of the moments I felt most loved my by mate was when he went out of his way to put a garage door clicker in my car when I’d be coming home late one night from work.
I felt loved.

Then again, I felt really loved when he finangled a way to buy me the sports car of my dreams without putting us in financial jeopardy. He’d never buy this car for himself. He likes bigger, more solid, room-for-everybody cars. I’m the one who wants a race car in my garage. Sometimes I just went to the garage to look at my S2000 after it was tucked away for the night. (What can I say? Race car genes.)
Not everyone cares about what they drive, but your special person cares about something. You need to figure it out and there’s nothing wrong with asking.

Getting Valentine’s Day right is all about knowing your lover. That’s romance.
